Many people arrive at college and think they are ready for advanced math classes because they took high school algebra and did OK. But if all you have taken is the basic beginning algebra and you've not had Algebra II or trigonometry you may find yourself overwhelmed when you get to college and attempt to take calculus. In the first case, the learner or his or her parents may be required to pay for tutoring time before the delivery of service, whereas many educational institutions and major textbook publishers sponsor a certain amount of tutoring without a direct charge to the learner.
Says Shari Henry, a contributing editor of Homeschooling Today and a home-schooling mother of three: "One February, when the weather was bad, I just said to myself, I can't keep doing this—it's too much responsibility." To avoid burnout, Henry emphasizes, home-schooling parents, particularly those with young children, must give themselves occasional breaks and make certain that they're plugged in to a good support network of other home-schooling families.
